Approach

Create a basic character outline through one of the Character Creation approaches. Then go to Sculpt Mode and perform these setup steps:

  • Click the Brush menu and check "Front Faces Only"
  • Turn on X mirroring (if so desired)
  • Use R to visually set the remesh size, or click the Remesh menu to set it there

To perform sculpting:

  • Select the brush you want, then use F to adjust the radius and Shift-F to adjust the strength
  • Zoom and rotate to the appropriate scale and location
  • Apply the tool to your mesh
  • Periodically use Control-R to remesh (or use a Retopology add-on)
  • Repeat

Frequently Used Brushes

  • Draw (D)
  • Grab (G)
  • Clay Strips
  • Crease Polish

Techniques

  • To create eye sockets, you can invert Clay Strip to make gaps.
  • To create a nose, the Snake Hook can be used. Then use Grab to adjust.
  • The mouth can be made with a Crease brush, drawing a sort of mild M shape.
  • Use Clay Strips to add bulbous shapes, like chin definition.
